WAEC Essay Scripts Now Marked Electronically: The West African Examination council, (WAEC) has announced that it will start marking theory scripts electronically. The new WAEC Essay ectroniv marking will start with the 2016 November/December West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The move according to WAEC is ensure that the body align the assessment of the examination with international best practices. This would remove every form of bias as the same standard will now apply.
Mr Olutise Adenipekun who is the WAEC’s Head of National Office in Nigeria, disclosed this news to the members of the Education Writers’ Association of Nigeria (EWAN) who visited his office on Tuesday.
According to Mr Olutise Adenipekun, the introduction of WAEC essay e-marker is timely in maintaining international best practices by WAEC.
“We are providing service and the people we are providing service for are youths of the country and youth naturally are restless. So they also want to see new things,” he said.
Adenipekun went further to state that, as a result of the development, candidates will no longer take their theory questions home after their examinations. This is so because because, the answer booklets are now combined with the question papers.
He however promissed that the WAEC template of assessing candidates will remain the same adding that it will not be in the interest of Nigeria to lower the standard of the examination for whatever reason.
“If you assess well today, you will build the nation because the youths of today will find themselves in several position of leadership in the future. ”
He also stated that some teachers have undergone training to deploy the e-marker, adding that many more would be trained for the e-marker.

In his reponse, the EWAN Chairman, Mr. Tunbosun Ogundare, thanked WAEC for recognising the association.
He however appealed to the management of the WAEC to extend training and other collaborative programmes to the association’s members as a way of enhancing their knowledge of the education sector. This according to him will help the beneficiaries in the discharge of their responsibilities.
WAEC Essay Scripts Now Marked Electronically, this will mean that the candidates need to do more with spellings, clarity and other such details for a better result as the subjective manual marking is no more.
WAEC Essay Scripts Now Marked Electronically- This move is surely more positive than negative in as much as the students are able to sit up to their duties. WAEC on the other hand should ensure that the WAEC e-marker also meet international standards.
Adequate training of those who will deploy the e-marker is also a pivotal in achieving the desired success with the innovation.
