West African Examinations Council, WAEC on Wednesday released the result of the 2018 WASSCE.  The 2018 WAEC result recorded only 49.98 per cent of candidates pass rate.

While talking to newsmen in Lagos, WAEC’s Head of National Office, Mr. Olu Adenipekun, said only 49.98% of the candidates obtained at least 5 credit passes including English Language and Mathematics.

The HNO also noted that noted that a total of 102,058 candidates (6.49%) have one or more of their subjects still being processed, as a result of errors traceable to the candidates in the course of registration or while writing the examination.

He assured candidates that these errors were being corrected by the council to enable the affected candidates get their results fully processed and released subsequently.

He also went further to state that the there were a few cases of malprictice in the 2018 WASSCE but it was minimal and they are being looked into.

He saiid “For cases that are established as in other previous examinations, the council is already looking at them,” he said.

He further went ahead to give a more detailed breakdown of the 2018 WAEC result stating that,

“A total of 1,578,846 candidates registered for the examination from 17,886 recognised secondary schools in Nigeria, adding, Out of the registered candidates, 1,572,396 candidates sat for the examination.

“1,213,244 candidates representing 76.84% obtained credits and above in a minimum of any five subjects (I. e with or without English Language and/or Mathematics.

“786,016 candidates representing 49.98% obtained credits and above in minimum of five subjects including English Language and Mathematics with 389,655 male and 396,361 female, representing 47.32% and 52.92% respectively.

“858,424 candidates representing 54.59% obtained credits and above in a minimum of five subjects including English Language but without Mathematics.

“1,470,338 candidates, representing 93.51% have their results fully processed and released.

“102,058 candidates representing 6.49% have a few of their subjects still being processed due to errors which are traceable to the candidates in the course of registration or writing the examination.

Mr. Olu Adenipekun said that the candidates, who have fulfilled their financial obligations to the council were free to check their 2018 WAEC result on the council’s result website – www.waecdirect.org.

Candidates do not need to buy any scratch card to check their results. They are to use the details on the smart identity card used during the examination.
