Buhari Sacks 17 Education Chiefs Including JAMB Registrar

Buhari Sacks 17 Education Chiefs- President Muhammadu Buhari has made a major reshuffle in the Educational sector. The president approved the appointment of new heads in 17 major parastatals under the Federal Ministry of Education. The change sees JAMB registrar, prof Ojerinde loose his job after the confusions in the 2016 admission process.

The Appointments see NUC, and NECO chiefs replaced. It took effect from August first withe new appointees to resume duty by 12:00pm August second (Tuesday) for their inauguration.

The news was contained in a statement signed by Bem Goong, Deputy Director, Press, Federal Ministry of Education. The full list of newly appointed heads includes:

  1. National Universities Commission (NUC)– Prof. Abubakar Adamu Rasheed
  2. Nigerian Institute for Education Planning and Administration – Prof. Lilian Salami
  3. Universal Basic Education (UBE)– Dr. Hameed Bobboyi
  4. National library of Nigeria (NLN)– Prof Lanre Aina
  5. National Examinations Council (NECO)– Prof. Charles Uwakwe
  6. National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal education – Prof. Abba Aladu
  7. Nomadic education Commission – Prof. Bashir Usman
  8. National Business and technical Examinations Board (NABTEB)– Prof. Isioma Isiugo-Abanihe
  9. Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN)– Prof. Sunday Josiah Ajiboye
  10. Computer Registration Council of Nigeria – Afolabi Aderinto
  11. National Commission for Colleges of Education – Prof. Bappah Aliyu
  12. Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund)– Dr. Abdullahi Bichi Baffa
  13. National Mathematical Centre (NMC)– Prof. Steven Ejugwu Onah
  14. Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) – The Secretary-General, Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Nigeria, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede is the new JAMB registrar.
  15. National Institute of Nigerian Languages – Prof. Chinyere Ohiri-Aniche
  16. Librarian Registration Counil of Nigeria – Prof Michael Afolabi
  17. National Teachers Institute (NTI)– Prof Garba Dahuwa Azare

The President however approved that the heads of four Educational agencies be retained in their duties. The following are the 4 chief executives to be retained in their respective agencies as approved by Buhari:

  1. Nigeria Educational Research and Development Council – Prof. Samaila Junaidu
  2. Nigerian French Language C\Village – Prof rauuf adebisi
  3. National board for technical education – Dr. Mas’ud Kazaure
  4. National Arabic language Village – Prof. Muhammad Mu’az.

While some of the changes are due to expiration of tenures of the current chief eg NUC, others lost their jobs due to lack of confidence in them by President Muhammadu Buhari. Such instance is the former head of JAMB who lost his job following the confusions in the 2016 admission process.

The JAMB boss had withdrawn the earlier released 2016 Admission list sent to Universities and other tertiary institutions. The news came just hours to his sack and immediate replacement by Buhari.

As Buhari Sacks 17 Education Chiefs, Nigerians will hope for a change in fortune in the educational sector.
